It was a pleasant get-together last Tuesday, 4 July, 2017 as some of the STGC cricketers were in attendance for the school’s ceremony to acknowledge the achievement of our cricketers in the 2016-17 season. With school on holiday and some of the players away either on vacation or on national cricket duties, it was indeed a happy occasion for the small group of players who were present.
The teams were lauded for their tremendous efforts and historic achievement of being in all the ISSA sponsored Cricket finals, U 14, U 16 and U 19, for the first time. Kingston College was only other team to accomplish this in the history of the competition.
Others who spoke at the function included Sportsmaster, Clifford Brown, STGC’s Sports Council Chairman, Glenroy Brown, Vice Principal Mr. Dave Soares and Vauyani Bailey of U-19 team.
They were exhorted to focus on improving their game and to aim high at representing their country. At the same time, they were to do this without neglecting their studies. The latter point was strongly emphasized.
The gathering was then treated with lunch.
The crowning of this accomplishment was the U-16 winning the Championship for the second successive time. We were runners up/ finalist in the U 14, beaten by Excelsior and in the U 19 by Papine High.
The STGC teams will be in attendance again at ISSA’s official ceremony this Tuesday, July 11th. This is in recognition of the teams that were successful in the U 16 and U19. competitions.
